Alguns beta-adrenérgico agentes de bloqueio (por exemplo, não cardioselective beta-bloqueadores) são contra-indicados em pacientes com asma brônquica ou com história de asma brônquica, ou grave doença pulmonar obstrutiva crônica. Em geral, beta-adrenérgico agentes de bloqueio não deve ser utilizado em pacientes com bronchospastic doenças. Beta bloqueio pode afetar adversamente a função pulmonar por contrariar a broncodilatação produzida por catecolamina estimulação dos receptores beta-2. Se o beta-bloqueador de terapia é necessário nesses pacientes, um agente beta-1 seletividade (por exemplo, atenolol, metoprolol, betaxolol) é considerado mais seguro, mas deve ser usado com cuidado, no entanto. Cardioselectivity não é absoluto e pode ser perdido com doses maiores.
