Sulfoniluréias são metabolizados no fígado e seus metabólitos com atividade farmacológica) são excretados na urina e fezes. Pacientes com insuficiência hepática e/ou renal tratados com sulfoniluréias podem estar expostos a maior soro concentrações do medicamento, o que pode aumentar o potencial para graves episódios de hipoglicemia induzida por estes agentes. Na presença de insuficiência hepática, gliconeogênicas capacidade também pode ser diminuído, ainda mais para agravar o risco. A terapia com sulfoniluréias deve ser administrado com cautela em pacientes com fígado e/ou doença renal. Redução de doses e intervalos mais longos entre os ajustes de dose podem ser necessários. A hipoglicemia, se ocorre durante o tratamento, pode ser prolongada nestes pacientes devido a diminuição do metabolismo e/ou excreção de drogas.
