O uso de estrógenos é contra-indicado em pacientes com diagnosticada, sangramento vaginal anormal. Prolongada (> 1 ano), sem oposição o uso de estrogênio (i.e. estrogênio sem concomitante de progestogênio terapia) tem sido associada a um significativos, relacionados com a dose de risco de carcinoma endometrial. O risco pode ser compensado substancialmente pela adição de um progestogênio, mas não podem ser completamente abolido. Antes de iniciar a terapia de estrogênio, testes de diagnóstico devem ser realizados em pacientes com sangramento vaginal anormal para descartar malignidade endometrial. O mesmo se aplica se o recorrente ou persistente, sangramento desenvolve-se durante a terapia de estrogênio.
