Os nucleosídeos inibidores da transcriptase reversa, a didanosina (ddI), zalcitabina (ddC), e estavudina (d4T), pode causar normalmente relacionados com a dose de neuropatia periférica, particularmente em pacientes com doença avançada pelo HIV. Geralmente, a neuropatia resolve lentamente seguinte mensagem de interrupção da terapia, mas pode ser irreversível. Esses agentes deve ser administrado com cautela a pacientes com história de neuropatia e evitados em pacientes com existente polineuropatia. A terapia pode ser reinstituídas seguinte resolução dos sintomas em pacientes que já tiveram neuropatia com estas drogas, mas reduziu a dosagem recomendada.
