Devido à sua negativo inotrópico e cronotrópico efeitos sobre o coração, beta-adrenérgico agentes de bloqueio (também conhecido como beta-bloqueadores) reduzem o débito cardíaco e pode precipitar ou agravar os sintomas de insuficiência arterial em pacientes com doença vascular periférica. Além disso, o não-seletivos beta-bloqueadores (por exemplo, timolol, carteolol) podem atenuar catecolamina-vasodilatação mediada durante o exercício, através do bloqueio de receptores beta-2 em vasos periféricos. Desde topicamente aplicado beta-bloqueadores são absorvidos sistemicamente e pode produzir clinicamente significativos efeitos sistêmicos, mesmo com baixa ou indetectável no plasma níveis, a terapia com oftálmica beta-bloqueadores deve ser administrado com cautela em pacientes com doença vascular periférica. Acompanhamento de perto para a progressão da obstrução arterial é aconselhado.
