Diuréticos tiazídicos podem causar hiperglicemia e glycosuria em pacientes com diabetes. Eles podem também provocar diabetes em pacientes pré-diabéticos. Estes efeitos são geralmente reversíveis seguintes a interrupção dos medicamentos. A terapia com diuréticos tiazídicos deve ser administrado com cautela em pacientes com diabetes mellitus, intolerância à glicose, ou uma predisposição para a hiperglicemia. Pacientes com diabetes mellitus devem ser monitorados mais de perto durante a terapia com tiazídicos, e os seus medicamentos para a diabetes regime ajustado em conformidade.

Consumidor:

Diuréticos poupadores de potássio pode causar hipercalemia, o que pode resultar em risco de vida arritmias cardíacas. Pacientes com diabetes mellitus, com ou sem nefropatia, podem ser particularmente suscetíveis aos hyperkalemic efeito destas drogas, devido a um defeito no sistema renina-angiotensina-aldosterona eixo. A terapia com diuréticos poupadores de potássio devem ser evitados, se possível, em pacientes com diabetes, especialmente descontrolada ou insulino-dependente diabetes mellitus. Se essas drogas são usadas, os níveis de potássio e função renal devem ser monitorados em intervalos regulares. Determinação dos eletrólitos séricos é especialmente importante durante o início da terapia, após um ajuste da dose, e durante a doença que poderia alterar a função renal.
